What Brewers Are Saying About Krush HBC 586 c.v.
“The first time we tried a beer with Krush HBC 586 was at the HAAS exhibit during hop selection in Yakima. Since then, and brewing with it here at home, we’ve been hooked. Mango, mango, and even more mango for days has made this a great addition to our hoppy offerings. We’ve used HBC 586 in both rotational and in collaboration beers due to its bright flavor and creaminess. Who doesn’t like liquid mango smoothie goodness?” - Michelle DeLuca, Brand Director, Equilibrium Brewery, Middletown, NY

As a versatile hop, it can be used in various brewing phases, from bittering to dry hopping.
The Origins of HBC 586
HBC 586 was developed by the Hop Breeding Company (HBC), a joint venture between Yakima Chief Hops and John I. Haas, Inc. This hop variety is the result of hybrid pollination and rigorous selection processes aimed at creating hops with unique and desirable characteristics. The HBC 586 hop was first introduced to the brewing world in 2021 and has quickly gained popularity for its distinctive profile.
Unique Characteristics of HBC 586 Hops

Alpha Acids in HBC 586 Hops
HBC 586 hops are notable for their high alpha acid content, making them an excellent choice for brewers seeking to achieve a balanced and smooth bitterness in their beers. The alpha acids in HBC 586, primarily humulone, cohumulone, and adhumulone, are efficiently isomerized during the boiling process, contributing to a stable and lasting bitterness. This high alpha acid content not only provides a clean bitterness but also allows the complex tropical and citrus flavors of HBC 586 to shine through, creating a well-rounded and enjoyable beer. For more information on El Dorado Hops and Nelson Sauvin hops , visit Hop Head Farms. Whether used in IPAs, pale ales, or experimental brews, the alpha acids in HBC 586 hops ensure a delightful balance of bitterness and flavor.

Hop Breeding Company Announces Commercial Release of Krush™ HBC 586
A new hop that has been known during its development as HBC 586 is now officially available commercially as the newly named Krush™ HBC 586 . For the past five+ years, the Hop Breeding Company, LLC (HBC) has been nurturing this experimental hop through many various test beers and countless hours of lab work. Now Krush is ready to take on the entire craft beer market to expand the hop options in new beer flavor profiles.
“Introducing a new hop variety to a wider craft market is always a thrill,” said Michael Ferguson, Director of Hop Breeding at John I. Haas. “Krush is incredibly versatile and has the immediate potential to inspire brewers with its robust citrus and tropical fruit profile. The hop has performed exceptionally well during years of rigorous trials, and I look forward to more brewers utilizing Krush in their recipes for years to come.”
Jason Perrault, CEO and breeder at Yakima Chief Ranches, echoed this enthusiasm. “Some hops you have to experience to understand. Krush is one of them. It delivers a big tropical and fruit punchiness without being overpowering. As a breeder, I consider this hop a rarity, and I think the response from beer drinkers will be overwhelmingly positive. About the commercial release, many of my brewing friends are simply saying ‘it’s about damn time!’”
Krush was created in 2007 using traditional breeding methods and HBC’s proprietary breeding stock. The new hop offers good storage stability, high yields, and robust resistance to pests and diseases, all of which are an important part of HBC’s commitment to sustainability. And the hop performs just as well in the brewhouse as in the field.
We have been noticing the use of HBC 586 experimental hop in beers from the Pacific Northwest over the past few years. Grains of Wrath has utilized these hops, as has Breakside Brewery. You can find these hops in Cowboys and Poets IPA , Breakside’s recent collaboration with Westbown & Down. Its a hop that is full of citrus and tropical fruit flavors that melds well with contemporary hop forward beers.
“Not every variety translates so clearly from raw hop aroma to finished beer, but Krush bursts with peach, mango, citrus, and tropical notes at harvest and adds a pop of these same flavors to every Krush beer I’ve tasted,” said Tiffany Pitra, Senior Sensory Manager at Yakima Chief Hops. “While it already has a loyal following, I hope the official release of Krush inspires even more beers built around this juicy hop!”
Krush joins an impressive portfolio of branded HBC hops, including Citra® HBC 394, Mosaic® 369, Sabro® HBC 438, and Talus® HBC 692.
